Digital Citizenship Reminder: Harrisburg School District is pleased to have been able to provide take-home mobile devices for students during distance learning. Please remember that this device is intended for school-related activities only. Students are expected to follow the rules set forth in the district’s technology acceptable use policies (https://5il.co/e0qf) and the law when using the system. While the Harrisburg School District actively manages district-issued devices, take-home devices do not restrict internet content while outside the district’s network. Therefore, it is important for parents to monitor their child’s use of technology and reinforce positive digital citizenship practices. Thank you for your support!

Dear Families! What a success our partnered feeding program was! We passed out food for 72 children in 10 minutes and took names for meals for Tuesday. For those of you who have reserved your meals, pick up is between 12pm-1 pm on Tuesday at Harrisburg Christian Church. If you still need meals for kids, please call the elementary school to reserve your meals. 541-995-6544

Harrisburg School Update I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. As we work with the Linn County Health Department, we are pleased to announce that we will have k-3 grades back on campus as we were before the pause on Monday, December 7. The buildings are being sanitized thoroughly and our food service staff will be back to work on Monday, December 7. In addition, we plan to continue with our plan of bringing grades 4-6 back for limited instruction. This is for two hours each day with contact in only two different cohorts. Building principals will provide the specific details for each grade sometime this week. We must social distance, wear facemasks, wash our hands frequently and stay home if feeling sick. We will continue to do our part by working closely with our local health authority and following all ODE/OHA protocols. Thank you to everyone for your continued patience and support as we work together to safely bring back our students.

COVID-19 update In the Harrisburg School district, we have two employees who have tested positive. People with potential exposure are being contacted. All learning for students in grades k-12 will be Comprehensive Distance Learning the next two weeks. Students cannot be on campus over the next two weeks. We plan to stay in direct communication with Linn County Public Health as to what we can do in the weeks ahead. We are hopeful to resume limited in person instruction on Monday, December 7. We will have to see how the Linn County metrics are tracking. Our food service department will shut down for the next two weeks. Our food service department will begin preparing meals on Monday, December 7. District staff will perform deep cleaning in school buildings and the kitchen as positive cases are rising in the community. Please contact your students building for specific details if you need a device or other education materials. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause your family. Thank you for your patience as we follow the ODE/OHA guidance.

HHS Leadership Christmas Project
Hello Harrisburg High School Families, It is that time of year again and we are gearing up for Parent/Teacher Conferences. Normally conferences are in person ,but due to COVID restrictions we are forced to make them virtual this year. Conferences will also be a little bit earlier than normal as they will be on November 12th and November 13th. Conferences on Thursday, will begin at 8am and run until 8pm. and on Friday from 8am and run until 4pm. There will be an hour long lunch from 12pm-1pm and dinner breaks from 5pm-6pm. Here is the conference schedule: November 12th 8am - 12pm 1pm - 5 pm 6pm - 8pm Nov 13th 8am-12pm 1pm-4pm Teachers are going to post a “Conference” Zoom link in their classroom page on the Harrisburg High School website, along with a schedule of times that they will be available. You can find the teacher classrooms, but going to Explore on the HS website and then scrolling down until you see Classrooms. Since we are not scheduling times for parents to meet with teachers, you will need to join the specific teacher’s waiting room for the teacher to speak with you. Please be patient with this process, it is new to all of us. If you are unable to connect with all of the teachers during conferences then feel free to reach out to them individually and set up an alternative time to meet with them. Thank you for your continued support in making Comprehensive Distance Learning the best we can make it for all.

It is important to us in the school district that we hear from all of our constituents. Our k-3 in-person hybrid learning will continue as long as we are able to do so. Please provide thoughts on what is going well or possible concerns for our administrators to consider as we are continuing through the school year. The new HSD app has been released and is now available in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. It's listed as Harrisburg School District 7J. It should update automatically. However, on my phone I had to uninstall the old app and reinstall the new one.

Hi HSD Families! Just a quick reminder that when you are picking up lunches at HES, that you are not blocking traffic. Please park in a parking spot, on the street or at the church. We have had some near misses with our busses that are picking up and dropping off students in the bus turnaround and want to keep everyone safe.

We’re happy to let you know that we'll soon be releasing a brand new version of our Harrisburg School District app. The app should update automatically if auto-updates are enabled on your phone. Otherwise, you'll be able to access the new app from either the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. Once you have the new app, you may want to access your HSD app settings to verify that your default school and notification options are set up correctly https://5il.co/mec5

First four weeks It is hard to believe we are completing four weeks of school in the 2020-21 school year. Our elementary school has grades k-3 meeting on campus for in person learning. Principal Geddes and team have done an amazing job following all of the ODE guidelines for health and safety purposes. Students and staff all wear facial coverings and follow social distancing as much as possible. Recesses are set up uniquely in order to comply with limiting the cohort mingling. Our food service department provides meals in the hallway, so students can eat in their classrooms and sanitation stations are located at every entrance. Our custodians are busy wiping surfaces, door handles and empting garbage cans. They have a restroom system in place that only allows 2 people at a time in the restroom, room capacity signs posted outside every room. As a reminder to our parents and guardians, as you come onto campus to pick up your son/daughter or drop off, please practice social distancing and wear a facial covering. Our success is the Harrisburg community’s success and in order for us to stay open for in person learning, we must continue practicing the safe practices recommended by the CDC. The good news is we remain student and staff free of any positive COVID-19 cases. In the Harrisburg School District, we have a wonderful staff of caring and professional individuals. It will take all of us working together in order to provide a healthy and safe place for our children to learn and grow. If you have questions or concerns please call me at 541-995-6626.
