Dear Harrisburg Community, More of our students have returned to in-person learning, which means they are walking, riding in cars or riding bikes to school in the morning and afternoon. As parents drop their children off in front of the elementary and middle schools, please be aware of the increase traffic and pedestrians. Our crosswalks are very busy before and after school, so please be patient and drive slow. Plan for a little more congestion around the schools between 8 am – 8:45 a.m. and 2:25 p.m. – 3 p.m. We appreciate your support as we safely bring our students back to a full day of in person learning.
The internet is back up and functional. There may intermittent issues throughout the rest of the day. Students are expected to logged into their online classes.
The internet is down district wide. Online classes will be disrupted until the internet is back up. Please continue to check to see if you can access your classes. We will notify you when the internet is back up and running. Thank you for your patience.

Dear Harrisburg School District Families, We are happy to announce that we have purchased Go Guardian, an internet security software that will protect and safeguard your children while they are using district issued equipment. Go Guardian protects students by limiting the websites they can access and allows their teachers to see what websites they have been accessing while using district issued chromebooks and while on the school district’s network. There are also many internet security threats that exist and Go Guardian is how we protect our students from those threats, as well. However, due to the nature of the protection that Go Guardian provides us, and that we have it installed on every district issued chromebook we are unable to allow students to bring their own personal chromebook, laptop, or iPad to school. Additionally, we would like all Harrisburg School District (HSD) students to use HSD devices while on campus as a way to maintain equity of education while here. Each school has apps and websites that teachers and students can use at any point during the day. All district devices have been set-up to ensure that all students have equal access to the apps that pertain to them. This way we can ensure that all students have the exact same access to the educational processes that teachers are providing. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact our technology coordinator, Paul Lambert at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you for your understanding on this matter.
The Harrisburg School District Board of Directors is seeking interested applicants to serve three year terms for two positions on the District Budget Committee. Please contact the District Office for information if you are interested.
Tonight's Board meeting will be live streamed via Zoom. There will be a short executive session, so open session will begin close to 6:45 pm. Here is the link: https://harrisburg-k12-or-us.zoom.us/j/84605441240?pwd=SGJtc21QNXhoM1I2MXMvSFB1S2lHQT09
Our district website is currently offline due to a networking outage. Other districts in our area are experiencing the same issue. Our ESD is aware of the problem and actively working to resolve it.
Hope everyone is enjoying the holidays and keeping safe. Just a reminder to all students to be responsible with the use of your district-issued device. Every site you visit is logged and any concerning content is reported.
Harrisburg High School students are involved with this group and were involved in making the below flyer. Linn County STAND (Students Taking Action Not Drinking) is a group of high school students from throughout Linn County working to enhance positive school climate through media campaigns and activities that address underage drinking, tobacco use and mental wellness. Please see the flyer for more information https://5il.co/o0i0
Dear Parents and Guardians, As a district, we have worked extremely hard to find ways for our students to be on campus while following the Ready Schools, Safe Learners guidance from Oregon Department of Education, ODE. The Harrisburg School District Administration understands we have families and students who are emotionally and mentally overwhelmed. If you need someone to talk with please contact our schools main office to connect with a school counselor or get help from the county. Since September 8, 2020, our elementary school has successfully used in person learning model for grades k-3. On Monday, December 7, we added grades 4-6 using the limited instruction model. Today we received new guidance from ODE allowing the schools who were meeting in-person under the “Safe Harbor Clause” that we may continue on Monday, January 4, 2021. This is great news as our primary students need to learn and master the basic skills in reading, writing and math. We appreciate your patience and flexibility as we navigate an unprecedented school year. I hope that our metrics begin decreasing in Linn County therefore allowing our school district to begin bringing more students back onto our campuses. Thank you for your support. Please continue to stay safe and use caution over the holidays by following the CDC guidelines of wearing a mask, washing your hands and social distancing. Merry Christmas Everyone!
Tonight's Board meeting will be live streamed at 6:30 PM via Zoom. Here is the link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83486622118?pwd=aVRET0pqTkNSNUdMYjJJL1FyQThDdz09
We're excited to let you know that as a district we are currently in the process of implementing a fully-featured internet filtering system for our district-issued Chromebooks. As stated in our current student device agreement form (https://5il.co/e0tu), previously internet filtering outside of our district was not an option. Now it is, and our Chromebooks will be fully managed even outside of our district network. We also want to remind everyone to make every effort to take care of those devices. We have seen a significant increase in device damage and our repair costs are significant. It's critical that students practice responsible technology usage as stated in our acceptable use policy (https://5il.co/e0qf) and that parents encourage those practices.
Digital Citizenship Reminder: Harrisburg School District is pleased to have been able to provide take-home mobile devices for students during distance learning. Please remember that this device is intended for school-related activities only. Students are expected to follow the rules set forth in the district’s technology acceptable use policies (https://5il.co/e0qf) and the law when using the system. While the Harrisburg School District actively manages district-issued devices, take-home devices do not restrict internet content while outside the district’s network. Therefore, it is important for parents to monitor their child’s use of technology and reinforce positive digital citizenship practices. Thank you for your support!
Dear Families! What a success our partnered feeding program was! We passed out food for 72 children in 10 minutes and took names for meals for Tuesday. For those of you who have reserved your meals, pick up is between 12pm-1 pm on Tuesday at Harrisburg Christian Church. If you still need meals for kids, please call the elementary school to reserve your meals. 541-995-6544
Harrisburg School Update I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. As we work with the Linn County Health Department, we are pleased to announce that we will have k-3 grades back on campus as we were before the pause on Monday, December 7. The buildings are being sanitized thoroughly and our food service staff will be back to work on Monday, December 7. In addition, we plan to continue with our plan of bringing grades 4-6 back for limited instruction. This is for two hours each day with contact in only two different cohorts. Building principals will provide the specific details for each grade sometime this week. We must social distance, wear facemasks, wash our hands frequently and stay home if feeling sick. We will continue to do our part by working closely with our local health authority and following all ODE/OHA protocols. Thank you to everyone for your continued patience and support as we work together to safely bring back our students.
Good morning Families! Don't forget food pick up for the week will be held today and tomorrow (Monday and Tuesday) from 12:15 - 1:30 at Harrisburg Christian Church. We have bags of 4 breakfasts and 4 lunches (for each child)for children ages 0-18. First come, first served. Families may only pick up meals for their own family members.
Hello Families-we have partnered with Harrisburg Christian and will be providing breakfasts and lunches for our students for the week! Families can drive through the church parking lot and pick up all the meals for the week on Monday OR Tuesday from 12:15 pm - 1:30 pm. COVID-19 update In the Harrisburg School district, we have two employees who have tested positive. People with potential exposure are being contacted. All learning for students in grades k-12 will be Comprehensive Distance Learning the next two weeks. Students cannot be on campus over the next two weeks. We plan to stay in direct communication with Linn County Public Health as to what we can do in the weeks ahead. We are hopeful to resume limited in person instruction on Monday, December 7. We will have to see how the Linn County metrics are tracking. Our food service department will shut down for the next two weeks. Our food service department will begin preparing meals on Monday, December 7. District staff will perform deep cleaning in school buildings and the kitchen as positive cases are rising in the community. Please contact your students building for specific details if you need a device or other education materials. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause your family. Thank you for your patience as we follow the ODE/OHA guidance.
Hello Harrisburg High School Families, It is that time of year again and we are gearing up for Parent/Teacher Conferences. Normally conferences are in person ,but due to COVID restrictions we are forced to make them virtual this year. Conferences will also be a little bit earlier than normal as they will be on November 12th and November 13th. Conferences on Thursday, will begin at 8am and run until 8pm. and on Friday from 8am and run until 4pm. There will be an hour long lunch from 12pm-1pm and dinner breaks from 5pm-6pm. Here is the conference schedule: November 12th 8am - 12pm 1pm - 5 pm 6pm - 8pm Nov 13th 8am-12pm 1pm-4pm Teachers are going to post a “Conference” Zoom link in their classroom page on the Harrisburg High School website, along with a schedule of times that they will be available. You can find the teacher classrooms, but going to Explore on the HS website and then scrolling down until you see Classrooms. Since we are not scheduling times for parents to meet with teachers, you will need to join the specific teacher’s waiting room for the teacher to speak with you. Please be patient with this process, it is new to all of us. If you are unable to connect with all of the teachers during conferences then feel free to reach out to them individually and set up an alternative time to meet with them. Thank you for your continued support in making Comprehensive Distance Learning the best we can make it for all.

The new HSD app has been released and is now available in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. It's listed as Harrisburg School District 7J. It should update automatically. However, on my phone I had to uninstall the old app and reinstall the new one.

Hi HSD Families! Just a quick reminder that when you are picking up lunches at HES, that you are not blocking traffic. Please park in a parking spot, on the street or at the church. We have had some near misses with our busses that are picking up and dropping off students in the bus turnaround and want to keep everyone safe.
We’re happy to let you know that we'll soon be releasing a brand new version of our Harrisburg School District app. The app should update automatically if auto-updates are enabled on your phone. Otherwise, you'll be able to access the new app from either the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. Once you have the new app, you may want to access your HSD app settings to verify that your default school and notification options are set up correctly https://5il.co/mec5

First four weeks It is hard to believe we are completing four weeks of school in the 2020-21 school year. Our elementary school has grades k-3 meeting on campus for in person learning. Principal Geddes and team have done an amazing job following all of the ODE guidelines for health and safety purposes. Students and staff all wear facial coverings and follow social distancing as much as possible. Recesses are set up uniquely in order to comply with limiting the cohort mingling. Our food service department provides meals in the hallway, so students can eat in their classrooms and sanitation stations are located at every entrance. Our custodians are busy wiping surfaces, door handles and empting garbage cans. They have a restroom system in place that only allows 2 people at a time in the restroom, room capacity signs posted outside every room. As a reminder to our parents and guardians, as you come onto campus to pick up your son/daughter or drop off, please practice social distancing and wear a facial covering. Our success is the Harrisburg community’s success and in order for us to stay open for in person learning, we must continue practicing the safe practices recommended by the CDC. The good news is we remain student and staff free of any positive COVID-19 cases. In the Harrisburg School District, we have a wonderful staff of caring and professional individuals. It will take all of us working together in order to provide a healthy and safe place for our children to learn and grow. If you have questions or concerns please call me at 541-995-6626.
Class of 2020 Senior banners are available for pickup in the HS office. You may pick them up Mon-Thurs 7:30 am-5:00 pm. Thank you for your patience!

How will ODE’s Graduation guidance impact college admissions? A: The Oregon public universities are committed to ensuring that new students who intend to enroll at our institutions are considered fairly in light of the educational interruption they have endured. No student admitted to our institutions for fall 2020 will have their admission rescinded due to changes in grading policy or the inability to complete their coursework, so long as they still graduate. Students who apply to our institutions are still subject to a review process that focuses on one's ability to succeed in college, but now recognizes that some situations are beyond their control. Grading during Distance Learning Recently, Oregon Department of Education (ODE) provided guidance around grading during the Distance Learning for All,(DL4A) for grades 9-11. Harrisburg School District made the decision to move to a Pass/No Pass/Incomplete system for grades 3-11. This holds students current GPA’s harmless during this closure. The teachers will determine grades of Pass/No pass/ Incomplete based on the staff interaction with students and work completed. Teachers are tracking their students who participate during the connection times and work completed.

We are looking into having staff perform painting and possibly other maintenance items around the district while following social distancing guidelines. We are planning to have classified staff work with teachers and be available for phone calls, paper packet copying and collating each week.
