Digital Citizenship
Peggy Stock, TOSA, Harrisburg School District

Technology is constantly evolving. As soon as we learn or adapt to something new, something faster and better is offered to us. How we incorporate these new technologies into our schools not only requires we learn how to use them, but also how they should be used appropriately by educators and students. This workshop will look at different themes around the "responsibilities" of teachers and students in regard to technology. Digital etiquette, digital access, digital literacy, digital rights and personal digital security are some topics that will be covered. Participants will collaborate in research and discussion on the usage of technology in our schools and have an opportunity to develop for their classrooms/schools digital citizenship guidelines for their students.

Digital Playground
Hosted by Harrisburg School District Technology Committee members
Take time to explore digital tools such as SMART Boards, SMART Airliners, digital cameras, digital video cameras, document cameras and cam-tikis.   Technology Committee members from the Harrisburg School District will be available to offer assistance and answer questions.

Jane Schneider, Technology Teacher, Harrisburg Middle School

What is GIS? GIS is a technological field or Geographic Information System of study that incorporates geographical features with tabular data in order to map, analyze, and assess real-world problems.  The key word to this technology is Geography - this means that the data (or at least some proportion of the data) is spatial, that is to say that the data that is in some way referenced to locations on the earth.

In this hands-on mini-seminar we will take a look at a free on-line GIS  funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation. This GIS is one that is designed for use by students and is a wonderful tool for teaching geographic concepts without having to invest in the costly ArcGIS software for your computer lab. Come for a hands-on tutorial and introduction to this exciting tool that will be so easy to incorporate into your curriculum across the subjects.
